St. Patrick’s Day

On a recent trip to the library my daughter picked up a copy of a free parenting magazine. We began leafing through the pages together, and saw an article about the Origins of St. Patrick’s day. Seeing the article reminded me that earlier in the month we bought a piece of corned beef at Costco, which was in our fridge needing to be eaten! I decided it would be fun to set up a cute St. Paddy’s day dinner.

Growing up, I never remember celebrating St. Patrick’s day. My husband did though. So each year on March 17th we usually celebrate by eating corned beef and cabbage, and indulging in a Guinness or two. This year we decide to add a little flair to our celebration by setting up a fun little themed table for dinner.

Everything that we used were things we already had around the house. We used our trusty green tablecloth that comes in handy for many holiday table settings. I used my tried and true Lenox French pearle groove plates, that were a gift from our wedding. We put some cute rainbow plates that we had leftover from my daughters first birthday party on top, that we used as our bread plates for our Irish soda bread. We made four leaf clovers out of pipe cleaners by twisting two of them together. We already had the gold coins, that I purchased last year at the dollar tree to use in a sensory bin for my oldest daughter.

We got our candles out that we use many nights during the week. My daughters love lighting the candles and they especially love blowing them out when dinner is over!

Lastly I had my three year old help make some rainbow place cards. I cut a piece of printer paper into small rectangles and then showed her how to draw a rainbow on them.

It was so cute watching her work with each color to make her rainbows. She loved making the place cards so much she even wanted to make one for our dog. She set it right in front of her bowls which was so cute!

I love making ordinary days extra special by setting up little dinners like this. Seeing my family enjoying the extra effort for something special is really exciting to me, and it makes me happy knowing that these little things could be traditions that my daughters will remember fondly for their lifetimes!
